Did you know that we are one of two sites for the Helping Hands ‘Free Food’ Sheds?
In our parking lot you can find a trio of doors that hold freezers, fridges and pantry food items in them.
The idea is simple… have some food you don’t want, or you’re leaving on vacation and it will only go bad, or you would just like to brighten someone’s day who needs food access help, drop it off!
Someone who a/ needs it, b/ stops by with a donation and spies something they’d like for themselves, or c/ would like to take something no matter the reason… is free to do so!
From the Helping Hands website,
“Take what you need – Leave what you can.
This community food exchange program promotes food security while tackling food waste. The program is structured as a “take what you need and leave what you can” free food initiative. It serves as an elegantly simple solution to community hunger that’s open and available 24/7 to anyone at any time.
Volunteers assist us daily with caretaking and cleaning shifts, food rescues, mini food drives, food bank collection and even grocery shopping opportunities.”
The East Shed is located at St. Andrew’s United Church 128 1 Street E.
The West Shed can be found at the Bow Valley Baptist Church 54 W. Aarsby Rd.
